“Today, I was thinking, what a great time to be alive if you love the theater of the absurd.” — David Lynch

What I’m Sorting Through, Currently …
“to be sorted later” is a series in which I attempt to have fun on the internet again, namely, by sharing the latest things I am watching, reading, listening to, hating, loving, discovering, and otherwise sorting through in any particular week or season. Enjoy! Or don’t!
Laughing & Crying & Shrinking
Shrinking was exactly the show I needed this January, right on time to fill the void left from the cancellation of the perfect show Somebody Somewhere.
I spent most of last weekend racing through the show’s two seasons, which as you likely already know, stars Jason Segel as Jimmy, a grieving therapist who works with Paul (Harrison Ford, perfect as always, no notes) and Gaby (the always hilarious Jessica Williams). The entire cast is fantastic, but my two favorites are neighbor Liz (Christa Miller in my dream wardrobe of Clare V and many baseball hats!) and Jimmy’s teenage daughter, Alice, especially as the latter grapples with being “the girl with the dead mom” as she’s also navigating, you know, being a teenage girl.
No spoilers, but there’s a scene in season one where Jimmy is jumping on a trampoline in his backyard that had me laughing so hard I thought I might hyperventilate. I also wept watching the season two finale. Feelings! Go feel them! Watch Shrinking!
Speaking of feeling feelings, I’m overdue for my annual rewatch of Station Eleven, but that will be my coping mechanism for next week. It will take my all to not repeat this part of Miranda’s speech if I have to lead a presentation again any time in the near future:
“You all seem to know that the world is coming to an end. So, it’s a good reminder that nothing we have done, or do, matters at all …
And I’m here with you! And you, and you! You don’t matter at all.”
Oh, I’m only kidding. I think?
Prana with Adriene
Speaking of January traditions: for the last 10 years, I’ve started the year with Yoga with Adriene. So last year, when she announced that 2024 would be her final 30 days of yoga program, I tried not to preemptively panic.
But as always, Adriene (and Benji) came through for all of us, with a new 7-day series, Prana. I highly, highly recommend it. You (and me) can also still access (for free!) all of the previous years’ 30 day yoga programs. I am so grateful for this human and everything she does. What a gift in this cruel world!
In Pursuit Of … Whatever
A new, quick hits section! 4 more things that have my attention for at least the next 4 minutes:
On Repeat
Yes, I’m still listening to “That Side of the Island” … can you blame me? Here’s a little playlist with that and some more songs capturing my January moods.
